چکیده

When considering low-frequency sources, the oceanic environment can act as a very dispersive waveguide, especially in shallow-water long-range sound wave propagation. One efficient tool for studying dispersion effects is based on time-frequency (TF) analysis of the received signals using a single receiver [1,2] . However, theses studies only considered two-dimensional (2-D) waveguides. In the present paper, TF analysis is used to study the propagation of low-frequency broadband pulses in three-dimensional (3-D) shallow-water waveguides. In particular, the paper focuses on the 3-D ASA wedge benchmark for which the received signals present characteristic modal structures including multiple mode arrivals. Indeed, it is well known that, due to the presence of a tilted bottom, a single propagating mode can have two distinct arrivals on a single receiver located in the across-slope direction. One objective of the present study is to show that TF analysis can be a suitable tool to better understand and easily illustrate this phenomenon.

Real Time Implementation of Digital LFM Pulse Compression Technique over Acoustic Waveguides

This paper presents the implementation of Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) pulse compression technique over acoustic waveguides at frequency range (2kHz--3kHz). The medium used for acoustic chirp propagation is air. Real time pulse compression was carried out over DSP kit (TMS320C6713). The obtained range from the compressed pulse accedes to the actual range of the target (sound source). The s...

Plume outflow intrusion impact on acoustical signal fluctuations in a pre-stratified environment

Existence of outflow intrusion introduces small-scale turbulence that perturbs the vertically stratified character of the sound velocity and causes spatial and temporal fluctuations of the sound propagation. In this experimental study, we have investigated acoustic wave propagation with frequency of 50 kHz in a pre-stratified environment with intrusion of a turbulent plume while the si...

Acoustic scattering from double-diffusive microstructure.

Laboratory measurements of high-frequency broadband acoustic backscattering (200-600 kHz) from the diffusive regime of double-diffusive microstructure have been performed. This type of microstructure, which was characterized using direct microstructure and optical shadowgraph techniques, is identified by sharp density and sound speed interfaces separating well-mixed layers. Vertical acoustic ba...
